SC Baptist Disaster Relief teams to assist with Midwest flooding

South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief teams have been activated to assist with the relief efforts being conducted due to the floods in the Midwest. Teams will be deployed to assist in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area. Three teams will rotate consecutively and be in place for 5 – 7 day periods assisting with assessment of damage and clean up of homes. Each team will have at least one chaplain or counselor trained in crisis intervention.

Myanmar - Southern Baptist Anxious to Respond

South Carolina Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers have been put on ALERT in response to the Myanmar disaster that occured Saturday, May 3, 2008. Volunteers that are interested to go will be asked to have a valid passport and rebuild skills to assist in the clean-up. Visa's will be required. Disaster Relief Volunteer Opportunities Through "The Bridge"

During the off-season, many Disaster Relief (DR) volunteers like to hone their skills learned at the bi-yearly training conferences. During this quiet time there are many things DR volunteers can do, for example: join in the many drills that are schedule through out the local communities sponsored by the Emergency Management Division, watch for available projects through your local association or the convention.

Disaster Relief Chaplaincy Training

Disaster Relief Chaplaincy Training will be conducted Friday, May 16 through Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. at Okatee Baptist Church. This will be a book/practical application training. All participants will be required to provide their own sleeping gear and toiletries to stay on-site. Food will be provided by a South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief. Training will be provided by NAMB. CCE credit 10 hours.

Fall South Carolina Disaster Relief Training Conference

The Disaster Relief Training Conference is for persons willing to give of their time and energy to help others that are in crisis. You will learn how to respond to people in a time of crisis. Your response will allow others to see Jesus in you through your loving response to their needs. Training is required to go on a deployment with any disaster relief team.
